The High Downs Project is an exciting initiative to improve the environment in the countryside between the Elham and Petham valleys within the Kent Downs AONB. The landscape is characterized by chalk grassland valleys, ancient woodland, heathland and hedgerow. The project is funded by National Grid and brings together The Kent Downs AONB, Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT), Natural England (NE) and the Forestry Commission (FC) as well as local farmers, private landowners and local communities who will work together to improve this landscape for people and wildlife.
